EPIC games delays Fortnite’s next season

The George Floyd incident has sent shockwaves throughout the world and the gaming
industry is not free from the impact of this historic time. The widespread outrage, protests
and police brutality in relation to the protests have prompted the gaming community to come
together to face this time together delaying many gaming events and launches. Fortnite’s next
in-game event titled ‘The Device’ will now take place on June 15 th . The next season called
Chapter 2 Season 3 will begin on June 17 th . Previously the Fortnite season was pushed back
due to development setbacks arising from the COVID 19 pandemic. Epic creative director
Donald Mustard noted in a tweet that there were more than 1,000 people working from home
on Fortnite. The previous date was June 11 th . ‘The Device’ is particularly interesting since it
is the first major narrative driven event since the black hole event.
In a blog post EPIC stated. “We’re acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team
members, players, and communities are experiencing. We believe in equality and justice,
diversity and inclusion, and that these fundamentals are above politics. The team is eager to
move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to
focus on themselves, their families, and their communities.”
This is the third delay for the new season. The first was announced in April and the second
was announced last week. Many gaming companies have delayed their events because of the
prevailing circumstances. Sony delayed a PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4 th and EA
postponed the announcement of Madden 21. Google also postponed the Android 11 feature
unveiling scheduled for today. Well. Fortnite fans will have to wait for more content it seems
after the phenomenal Travis Scott concerts, a Dilpo concert and an airing of ‘Tenet’,
Christopher Nolan’s new movie.
