The system requirements for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy game was stating that the game would require a whopping 150  GB of storage space. Now that is really massive. It ended up catching a lot of people’s attention, after all, no one would expect a single-player game to take that much space. With a 150  GB game, storage space is not the only issue. There is also the issue of downloading it. After all, in order to download 150  GB, you need either a very fast internet connection, or a lot of patience.

Anyway, now Eidos Montreal, developer of the Guardians of the Galaxy game, has announced that they have adjusted the requirements for the space needed. And, now it is stated to require only around 80 GB of storage instead of the previously mentioned 150 GB. Do not get me wrong, 80 GB is still a lot of space, but that is way less than the 150 GB that was announced initially. There is no solid reason as to how the storage requirement changed so drastically in a matter of a few days.

However, the studio states that it is in the last stages when it comes to optimizing Guardians of the Galaxy, and from the looks of it, it is going really well. You do not get to see someone reducing the storage requirement for their game to almost half in a matter of days that often. With all the buzz that has been going on around with the 150GB storage space requirement, Eidos decided to inform the masses with a new tweet about the change in the space required.

Here is the main announcement:

Hey everyone! We wanted to give you an update on the final size of the PC version of the game, which will not be 150 GB. The team is in the last stages of optimizing the final game and we can confirm the file size will be approximately 80 GB at launch.

So, if you were one of those who got panicked seeing that they would need a whopping 150 GB to install the Guardians of the Galaxy game, it is indeed a piece of good news. 80 GB is understandable for a modern AAA game. While 80 GB still being a lot of space, that is still acceptable. Even downloading it would take almost half the time when compared to the size that was announced earlier.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is set to release on October 26, 2021. So, just like a few days from now. And, it promises to deliver a true single-player experience with no DLCs, or microtransactions. It has become quite rare to see such games these days.
