Far Cry 6 Ray Tracing Will Be Only Available In PC

Far Cry 6’s release is just around the corner now, with just like two weeks of time left. Far Cry 6, being a new generation AAA title, will come with support for various visual enhancements such as Ray Tracing, and AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution support. However, now it seems that these features will only be available on PC. And, the reason for which these won’t be made available to consoles? Well, it seems that it has got to do with the hardware.

On consoles, the priority will be hitting 4K and 60 FPS. And, with the hardware that they have, hitting that on top of the above mentioned visual enhancements will be quite a challenge. In a recent interview with Wccftech, Ubisoft 3D Team’s lead programmer Stephanie Brenham reveals that both ray tracing and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution would be available for even mid-range hardware. This is done due to the team’s decision of employing hybrid ray traced reflections using both DXR and SSLR.

Elaborating on the implementation of AMD’s FidelityFX toolkit, namely FSR, Brenham explains that Far Cry 6 will use a “custom denoiser” for its ray traced reflections and shadows. They also said that “FSR is a feature we developed in partnership with AMD for PC”, which may suggest that we won’t see Nvidia’s competing DLSS solution implemented into Far Cry 6. However, those with an Nvidia graphics card looking to boost fps won’t be left out as both team red and team green hardware supports FSR.

So, if you are on PC, then rejoice, you can get to play Far Cry 6 at the highest visual settings. However, you would obviously need a very much capable PC for that. And, if you do not have a powerful card, then you would definitely need that. But, with current prices, it would be quite difficult to get a good one at a good and affordable price. However, if you have the money, then it should not be an issue.
