The developers of Forza Horizon 5 talked about sound in their monthly Forza stream and revealed how engine sounds & Co. get into video games. In addition to graphic effects such as ray tracing, both the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X offer new functions in terms of audio. Both consoles support 3D audio, with Microsoft calling the corresponding feature "ray-traced audio". This should improve the spatial sound and make it possible to locate noises as precisely as possible. The upcoming Forza Horizon 5 will support ray tracing audio, as the British developer Playground Games announced in their monthly stream.

Forza Horizon 5 comes with support for Dolby Atmos
For example, the sound of the cars should sound realistic when driving through a tunnel. According to the developers, the sound waves are released into the game world and hit walls, buildings and other objects and are reflected by them in various ways. Each material in the game has its own absorption coefficient, so it sounds different whether you are in the rainforest or in the city. In order to be able to enjoy ray tracing audio, however, a playback device with support for spatial audio technology, such as Dolby Atmos, is absolutely necessary.

Forza Horizon 5 will use a new compression format for audio files on the Xbox Series X / S. So all sounds contained should be able to be played in higher quality than with Forza Horizon 5 on the Xbox One. If you are sitting in a convertible, the perceptible noises change depending on whether you are driving with the top open or closed. There will also be new engine sounds. On November 9th, Forza Horizon 5 will be released for PC on Steam, in the Microsoft Store, on Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S. All Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play the open-world racing game from launch day at no additional cost. There will be various customization options for both the character and the licensed cars. For example, you can paint the brake calipers or give the character its own voice.
