The original Mafia was released in 2002 for PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. Eight years later, Mafia 2 arrived for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Mafia 3, meanwhile, released in 2016. Each game is self-contained and developed by different teams, although it focuses on the life of organized crime during different settings and eras with new original characters within every installment.

After a short teaser trailer was released last week, 2K Games has officially revealed Mafia: Trilogy, a collection of all three games released in the Mafia series so far. Similar to 2019’s Yakuza Remastered Collection, not all parts of Mafia: Trilogy will be available at once, but two thirds of the content is available right now and free for many owners of their original releases. Available right now are the Definitive Editions of Mafia II and Mafia III. Both of these new editions include the original games, as well as all DLC content that was released for them since their original release. Mafia III: Definitive Edition is available right now and is a free upgrade for owners of Mafia III on PlayStation 4, Steam and Xbox One. Mafia II's free upgrade unlocks three story expansions--The Betrayal of Jimmy, Jimmy's Vendetta, and Joe's Adventure--as well as four gear packs. Though the free upgrade is only available on PC via Steam, Mafia II: Definitive Edition is also available as a separate purchase on all platforms. Mafia III's Definitive Edition upgrade comes with all three story DLCS--Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned, and Sign of the Times--and two gear packs. Those who already own physical or digital editions of Mafia III will simply have to download the new update to get the DLC.

The trilogy will be released as part of a collection that includes Mafia 3, a 4K remaster of Mafia 2, and a Definitive Edition of the Mafia game which is a complete remake of the original game with a new game engine, expanded story, new and refined gameplay features as well as a re-recorded score. Mafia 2 and 3 Definitive Editions are already available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC(Steam), and later they will come to Epic Store and Google Stadia. On the other hand, Mafia: Definitive Edition requires much more work, and it will be released this summer (28 August).
