Nvidia allegedly wants to add the new "Ultra Quality" mode to DLSS, which is supposed to offer higher image quality. However, there is currently no information on a release date. After AMD finally presented competition to DLSS with Fidelity FX Super Resolution last week, Nvidia may want to counteract this with a new preset. According to a Reddit post, in addition to the quality levels Ultra Performance, Performance, Balanced and Quality, an "Ultra Quality" mode could soon be added. DLSS Ultra Quality in the Unreal Engine The creator of the post, a user named Reinhardovich, is referring to the DLSS documentation for Unreal Engine 5. This supposedly shows a table that lists the "Ultra Quality" preset as the highest quality level. There is also the note that this information should not be public at the moment. The different variants of DLSS primarily influence the resolution with which the graphics card calculates the image before upscaling. In ultra-performance mode, the resolution is divided into three in relation to the final result, whereas the prettiest mode "Quality" to date still calculates two-thirds of the resolution. The new "Ultra Quality" preset should simply go a little higher and, for example, calculate 75 percent of the final resolution. When and whether Nvidia will actually release the new preset, unfortunately, it is not clear from the posted table. According to Reinhardovich, DLSS 2.2.9.0 will already be delivered with the current plug-in for the Unreal Engine, while the latest DLSS titles still rely on DLSS 2.2.6.0. The new mode may already be available to developers. With regard to AMD's Fidelity FX Super Resolution, an early release would make sense so that Nvidia can draw more attention to itself when it comes to upscaling.
