The CEO of Electronic Arts has made some intriguing remarks on a possible sequel to their battle royale game Apex Legends. Apex Legends' player base has been steadily dropping over time, according to the publisher.
One of the greatest free-to-play shooters available is Apex Legends, developed by Respawn Entertainment and set in the same universe as the popular Titanfall series. Even though the game is still well-liked, it didn't live up to publisher EA's expectations in the most recent fiscal quarter and was a hot topic during the company's most recent earnings call. During this investor meeting, EA discussed its future intentions for Apex Legends and even provided answers to queries about the game's potential successor.
When questioned if the shift in strategy for the game going ahead would necessitate the construction of anything like a 2.0 edition, Andrew Wilson, the CEO and chairwoman of EA, refrained from providing any information about a potential Apex Legends sequel during the company's Q2 2025 results conference on 29th October. However, the senior executive implied that EA would think that a second Apex Legends game will probably do worse than the first, saying that the second version of something has nearly never been as successful as the original. Wilson went on to say that EA's current priorities include releasing new content season by season and continuing to support its community.

During the most recent earnings call, Wilson also mentioned Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The CEO expressed his belief that the next role-playing game has the potential to become a huge hit. He recalled how 2014's Inquisition, the final Dragon Age chapter and one of BioWare's best-written games to this day, was a huge hit for EA when it came out.
EA disclosed in May that since its 2019 premiere, Apex Legends has already brought in $3.4 billion. The battle pass's increased access to freemium content for the current 22nd season was blamed for the game's lower-than-expected performance last quarter. In an attempt to turn things around, EA now intends to expand Apex Legends' seasonal content and provide new features. Wilson claims that the business has faith in Apex Legends' robust brand, sizable worldwide player base, and standing in comparison to its competitors.
According to data from analytics tracker SteamDB, Apex Legends currently draws an average of about 150,000 concurrent players on Steam alone. Around the same time Season 16 was released, in February 2023, the game reached a peak of over 624,000 players on the Valve-owned platform.
