Recent tests of new technology in Overwatch 2 should enable the FPS to make future game tweaks more quickly and in smaller increments. Overwatch 2 intends to investigate how it can more readily and rapidly apply hotfixes in between significant updates by utilizing its Rapid Balance Update technology.
Overwatch 2's Season 13: Spellbinder update was just released. In addition to cosmetics and time-limited events, Overwatch 2 Season 13 introduced new hero balancing. One such change was a significant redesign of Sombra, which now links her Stealth passive to her Translocator, whose cooldown was extended from five to seven seconds.
In order to address the shortcomings of Sombra's most recent Overwatch 2 redesign, Blizzard has now given the hero a minor boost and experimented with new technology. Sombra's translocator cooldown was hotfixed from seven to six seconds on 21st October in Overwatch 2. Daniel Razza, the lead gameplay developer for Overwatch 2, claims that the patch was particularly tiny since the buff was applied utilizing the new "Rapid Balance Update tech." Blizzard intends to keep an eye on the technology's performance and investigate potential future applications to improve Overwatch 2.
The New Rapid Balance Update Technology In Overwatch 2
Emergency hotfixes have been applied by Blizzard in the past to remedy flaws like the one that mistakenly let Orisa's Energy Javelin deal critical strikes in Overwatch 2 or the one that exposed Sombra to the entire team if one hero managed to see her through her stealth. This Rapid Balance Update technique, however, might be the first step toward more frequent balance changes in Overwatch 2, which are infrequently released between major and mid-season upgrades.
Hero balance is essential in Overwatch 2, a live service PvP game, because a powerful hero can dominate battles for weeks, while an underpowered hero might make them unpleasant to pick during that period. Players may soon witness fewer cases of persistent hero imbalance that are left to fester until the next major patch if this new technology enables Overwatch 2 to make small tweaks on the fly in between major updates.
Few fans, however, believe that Sombra's Translocator's second, shorter cooldown will solve all of her issues. With the removal of Sombra's Stealth passive in Overwatch 2, the damage hero is no longer one of the game's greatest flankers but rather a frontline pressure option, losing some of the distinctive gameplay features that initially drew players to her. Only time will tell what the resident hacker of Overwatch 2 will do next, since Sombra has a history of oscillating between extremes on the balancing scale.
