Santa Monica Studio, the creator of God of War, may be developing a massive narrative combat game, maybe for the PlayStation 6, according to some recently discovered evidence. Since the release of God of War Ragnarok in 2022, not much is known about the award-winning developer's ambitions; nonetheless, thorough investigation may indicate that a "next-generation" project is being worked on at Santa Monica Studio.

Despite being a huge success for Sony and Santa Monica Studio, God of War Ragnarok's conclusion raised a lot of rumors that the company would be putting the God of War series on hiatus for a while. Not only did God of War Ragnarok aptly conclude the Norse story, but the free-to-play Valhalla DLC also argued that Kratos, the series' famous protagonist, ought to retire. While the next mainstream God of War game's appearance and release date are still unknown, fans may currently look forward to other Santa Monica Studio projects.

Although one of Santa Monica Studio's next projects is a completely original IP, it has long been known that the developer is also working on a game for Sony's forthcoming PS6 system, according to a recent job posting. The job posting describes the position as Senior Environment Artist for External Development for a "next-generation narrative combat game." Even while on its own this can be written off as exaggeration, the job responsibilities section adds more evidence that this project will in fact focus on "next-generation platforms."

Seeing how Santa Monica Studio will use the PS6's capabilities for its narrative combat project should also be fascinating, especially given the job posting mentions a photorealistic art style for the game. Though public rumors regarding the PS6 are still relatively new, it seems that PlayStation's first-party companies have been developing games for the upcoming system for some time.
