One of Xal'atath's lines in World of Warcraft: The War Within's final campaign chapter, A Light in the Dark, varies greatly based on a number of variables, such as whether the player is a Shadow Priest who first encountered her in Legion. During the World of Warcraft story chapter, players can choose from up to four different pathways depending on what aspects of the game their character has already played.
The last maximum level campaign for The War Within was recently made available in World of Warcraft. In this chapter, the heroes foiled one of Xal'atath's numerous plots and unveiled Khadgar's true fate at the start of the World of Warcraft expansion.
But not every player may know about this particular Easter egg that is hidden in the build-up to this big moment. The mysterious adversary whispers a threat directly to the character during the battle against Xal'atath's forces. The threat varies based on whether the player is a Shadow Priest who has finished the Legion artifact questline and whether they still possess the Eye of N'zoth that they acquired during the Battle for Azeroth quest. Sarah Cotner, senior game designer for World of Warcraft, stated on Twitter that two of the four chat segments are exclusive to Priests who have encountered Xal'atath during Legion.
It goes without saying that Xal'atath is a well-liked antagonist among players of World of Warcraft. The War Within has done a fantastic job introducing the enigmatic enemy throughout its plot, with lots of opportunities for new players to get familiar with her and sly Easter eggs for those who are already familiar with her—even though some players may not have even known who she was at the start of the expansion.
According to executive creative director of Warcraft Chris Metzen, Xal’atath isn’t going to be a one-expansion villain like some previous antagonists. Fans can expect to face off against Xal’atath during all of the Worldsoul Saga in World of Warcraft, so Shadow Priests should keep their eye out for other Easter eggs like this one in the future.
