Helldivers 2 has encountered difficulties recently, even though the game was received favourably when it was first released in February 2024. More precisely, as a result of blowback from recent game changes, Helldivers 2 has seen a gradually declining player base and an increase in unfavourable reviews.

It goes without saying that some optimism would much help to diffuse the ongoing Helldivers 2 controversy. Taking inspiration from Destiny 2's post-match commendations, a contentious feature, may be a fun way for Helldivers 2 to change things up. This kind of innovation might be quite beneficial for Helldivers 2 in the long run, even if it has nothing to do with the controversy that currently surrounds the game.

Helldivers 2 Could Benefit From The Recognition System In Destiny 2

The commendations feature in Destiny 2 wasn't warmly appreciated when it was initially released. After finishing endgame content, what was supposed to be merely an optional method to get praise from teammates evolved into yet another pointless meta-progression mechanism. Put differently, most players didn't like the fact that they had to rely on the praise of their fellow players in order to advance up the Guardian Ranks in Destiny 2. Since this feature was added, the effect that rewards have on players' Guardian Ranks in Destiny 2 has been significantly reduced. Nevertheless, because these two advancement systems haven't entirely been split off, rewards continue to be a contentious aspect of the game.

Given the history of commendations in Destiny 2, it seems reasonable to assume that, should they be added in future Helldivers 2 patches, they will be an optional feature unrelated to a larger advancement system. While there is certainly need for improvement in Helldivers 2's endgame advancement, it should not replicate Destiny 2's faults with regard to praise. It would not be the best idea to make commendations an optional feature in order to encourage gamers to take part in this new system, but it would probably be a good idea.

Although there aren't many in-game social media platforms in Helldivers 2 that allow players to see their earned commendations, it would still be interesting to see which players have accrued the most of them, along with other statistics that the game currently tracks like kills, deaths, and unintentional team kills. In Helldivers 2, players could still compare their Super Destroyer ships' stats between missions until such a feature was added.
