Deliverance comes to a close with Henry and Sir Hans Capon—accompanied by a well-armed guard—entering the forested areas of the Trosky estate. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, seven years later, they eventually make it out of the woods. For fans of the series, it has been years, but for Henry, the protagonist of KCD2, and his allies, it has only been weeks. The sequel begins up right where the last game left off. A big benefit of this entertaining little time travel for the series is that fans of the first game's plot are probably going to love the sequel, which adds six years of technological effort to the mix.
It is true that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is an iteration rather than a progression sequel. The game's developer, Warhorse Studios, has effectively described it as "bigger and better" from the beginning, and this is evident in the way it is designed. With a fresh tale, two maps in the Bohemian Paradise and Kuttenberg regions, a genuine, breathing city tossed in, and new elements like crossbows and early guns, the "bigger" is easier to see. The term "better" seems to be the most important one in this instance, though. Game Rant had the opportunity to play two game segments—the early going in the game and Kuttenberg later on—at the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 preview event that was held recently in Kutná Hora (Kuttenberg).
The first part of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 places players in the role of Father Godwin, KCD1's supporting priest. We have to repel a siege of a castle, kill adversaries with our crossbow before they can charge the gate, replenish bolts in them at the entrance, and engage in combat on the battlements while the enemy uses siege ladders to ascend it. This little instructional serves as a recap of Kingdom Come: Deliverance's combat and ends with a tantalising reveal: Sir Hans has taken a hit. The game then travels back in time, putting players back in Henry's shoes as they advance near Trosky Castle.
Sir Hans called for us to camp on the riverbank there, as we would not make it to Trosky Castle before dusk. This gave us the opportunity to chat with our friends, figure out how to feed our dog, and have another KCD2 combat lesson with Sir Hans on precise blocks and ripostes. We then spent some time sitting around the camp chatting with the others and filling in some of the gaps in our past with the characters. After that, Sir Hans demands that Henry and he quickly take a bath in the river.
