Along with a long list of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks, version 8.0.5 of Destiny 2 also heralds the start of this year's Solstice event. The patch notes indicate a reduction to The Mountaintop grenade launcher's capacity to support grenade hopping. Due to the weapon's rebirth with the Into the Light update, gamers have been using this unique weapon—the only grenade launcher in Destiny 2 that enables efficient rocket jumping—more frequently lately.

With the most recent update for Destiny 2, the Mountaintop is by no means the only weapon that has been altered, but there don't seem to be as many outright nerfs as there were previously. Both PvE and PvP environments have undergone significant changes in Update 8.0.5. Crucible map weighting has been slightly adjusted, players can now attune to specific BRAVE weapons in Zavala, increasing the drop rate of attuned weapons in Onslaught by 60%, and players can now complete the Dual Destiny exotic mission once a week.

The most recent patch for Destiny 2 includes a number of changes, including this regrettable update to The Mountaintop. The update specifically places a cap on player acceleration when using The Mountaintop to grenade jump, which will affect players' capacity to swiftly go great distances and reach lofty places. Although this adjustment has naturally annoyed a lot of weapon enthusiasts, many players are just perplexed as to why this acceleration limit was put in place. The reason for this is unclear, however it was probably done to avoid physics interactions that could interfere with the game's engine.

In Destiny 2, players have previously shown off the hilarious consequences of "stacking" Mountaintop grenades to reach extremely high speeds. Considering how frequent physics-related engine bugs are in Destiny 2, it wouldn't be outlandish to assume that these safeguards were put in place to keep them from happening during gameplay. However, given that Bungie released the Strand subclass just 18 months ago, it doesn't seem like movement in Destiny 2 is much of a problem in their eyes. Still, some players are afraid that Bungie plans to lessen the effectiveness of many of the game's well-liked movement techniques moving forward.

Players can only hope that Bungie reverses this modification to The Mountaintop in a later patch, or at the very least provides some explanation for the change's reasoning. Aside from Mountaintop, the most recent update for Destiny 2 has slightly altered the weapon sandbox by rebalancing several weapon types to better fit with PvE activities.
