There is presently a surge of unfavourable reviews for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Steam. Although Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's first-person shooter set records when it was released, fans are still voicing their displeasure with the game.
After Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released in October 2022, it became the fastest-selling Call of Duty game ever, garnering great reviews from reviewers and players.. But since the game's release, a number of concerns have surfaced, such as technical difficulties and complaints about some upgrades and modifications. Updates have been released by Infinity Ward to enhance gameplay and add new material, such as a crossover between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Dune which adds sci-fi aspects to multiplayer games.
Only 19% of the most recent Steam reviews for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are good, and the majority of the reviews being "overwhelmingly negative." Concerns over the game's performance, the launcher, the contentious Modern Warfare 2 UI updates, and the most recent adjustments to the gameplay mechanics are being voiced by players. Players have voiced dissatisfaction with several launch crashes, subpar optimization, and other bugs that plague their multiplayer experience. A few players also mentioned that they were unable to play Modern Warfare 2 since certain game modes required the purchase of Modern Warfare 3 in order to be unlocked.
While some reviews are filled with memes and other humorous remarks, others express real annoyance with some parts of the game. In addition to crashes and glitches that kept them from enjoying Modern Warfare 2 to the fullest, players complained about the layout of the minimap. It restricts the amount of red dots that appear when unsuppressed weapons are fired. The community had mixed feelings about this minimap update, and players' frequent reports of bugs added to the high number of negative reviews Modern Warfare 2 received on Steam. Infinity Ward justified this change by claiming it didn't want to punish players for firing their weapons.
Infinity Ward and Activision have not yet responded to this latest outcry. The most recent season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Mobile, a free-to-play mobile game released in March 2024, seem to be the main focus, though. Although details about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 patches are currently unknown, players anticipate that Infinity Ward will take community comments into consideration in order to enhance the game's overall playability and stability in subsequent patches.
