The second game in the studio's venerable first-person shooter series, Marathon 2, has been re-released by Bungie and Aleph One Developers on Steam for no cost at all. Most people associate Bungie with creating the first-person shooter games Halo and Destiny. Still, the studio's origins date back to the 1990s and the Marathon series.

In 1994, Bungie launched the first instalment of their renowned Marathon trilogy for Apple Macintosh computers. Marathon helped define many of the FPS patterns and clichés that players are acquainted with today, even though it was competing with other significant first-person shooters that came out in the 1990s. The studio has been returning to the Marathon series with both a new game and re-releases of its previous titles, even though the series isn't as well-known as Bungie's other IPs because it was exclusively available on Mac PCs for the longest period of time. After the original Marathon game was re-released on Steam for free back in May, fans can now get the second instalment of this well-known first-person shooter series for free.

Developed and published by Aleph One Developers, the game was re-released under the name Classic Marathon 2. The goal of the fan-run Aleph One Developers team was to adapt the Marathon trilogy for contemporary gaming platforms such as Steam. Classic Marathon 2 has improved upon the original in many ways, much as the Classic Marathon Steam re-release.

Steam Offers Classic Marathon 2 For Free

Optional widescreen HUD support, 3D filtering and perspective, positional audio, and interpolation at 60+ frames per second are among the new features added to Classic Marathon 2. If any of these additional additions bother players, they still have the option to play the game the way it was designed. There is also a texture pack DLC for Classic Marathon 2, which replaces the game's graphics with Marathon: Durandal's XBLA counterpart. Marathon 2's narrative commences at the conclusion of the previous game, when the player character is taken over by the malevolent rogue AI Durandal and made to carry out their orders.

Later this year, Marathon Infinity, the third game in the trilogy, will also be re-released on Steam at no cost. Additionally, Bungie is bringing the Marathon IP back to life with a fresh take on the hero shooter genre. However, with the revelation that Marathon will no longer be an extraction shooter game, the studio has encountered some criticism. Fans won't be able to completely judge the game and its direction until additional details are provided, though, as this revival is still in the early stages of production.
