It appears like Todd Howard will not be updating the original two Fallout games in the series anytime soon, which is unfortunate news for fans who were hoping for new paint jobs. According to Howard's recent interview, despite intense demand from certain segments of the gaming community, the original Fallout games developed by Interplay could not be coming back anytime soon.

Fallout 1 and 2 are games that really show their age, mostly because of their antiquated graphics and control methods, even though they are still recognized by many as among of the greatest turn-based CRPGs ever made. It's understandable that the games haven't held up the best visually and technically given that both were released in the late 1990s, roughly ten years before Fallout 3, the franchise's first completely 3D game. This is the reason why a lot of fans have fantasized about Fallout 1 and 2 remakes that address the outdated aspects of the original games and enable first-person gameplay, aligning them with their contemporary counterparts. Todd Howard, the head of Bethesda Game Studios, has discussed this possibility in some remarks, although some fans may not be happy with his answer.

During an interview with MrMattyPlays, Todd Howard, a well-known YouTuber, Todd Howard was asked if Bethesda has thought about updating the first two Fallout games to make them more accessible to new players. In response, the well-known game developer effectively stated that the Maryland-based firm was not currently considering remastering or remakes of Fallout 1 and 2. Rather, Howard stressed that simply "making sure" that the old Interplay CRPGs can still be played on PC is BGS's "main priority." Beyond that, though, discussions about a potential return to Fallout 1 and 2 at Bethesda have never materialized due to the company's "lack of [development work] priorities."
