The gaming community recently reacted negatively to Sony's announcement that PC users will have to link their Steam accounts to PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts in order to play Helldivers 2. The decision caused the game's review score to fall, garnering over 200,000 unfavorable reviews on Steam. The Helldivers 2 community has subsequently taken matters into their own hands with "Operation Clean Up," a campaign to restore favorable Steam reviews. Sony swiftly acted upon the community comments and overturned the decision.

The Repercussions of Sony's Choice

The Helldivers 2 community was furious when Sony decided to make PC players link their PSN accounts. The game's rating dropped from "overwhelmingly positive" to "mostly negative" in a short amount of time as a result of the over 200,000 nasty reviews that flooded Steam. Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead, expressed disappointment but vowed to keep providing a fantastic gaming experience.

Operation Clear Up

Operation Clean Up was started by the Helldivers 2 community in reaction to the review bombing. Through this grassroots campaign, users were urged to change their unfavorable Steam reviews and rebuild the game's positive reputation. Operation Clean Up gained traction after being spearheaded by moderators on the Helldivers subreddit. Since May 6, tens of thousands of positive evaluations have been posted. The section on recent reviews has a'mixed' grade currently, which indicates a notable improvement.

Operation Clean Up's effects

With more than 70,000 favorable evaluations provided since the program's launch, Operation Clean Up has demonstrated encouraging outcomes. This has changed the overall rating to'mostly favorable' and the latest review rating from 'overwhelmingly negative' to'mixed.' The concerted effort by the community demonstrates the value of player opinions and camaraderie in preserving the integrity of the gaming community.

The Reaction of Arrowhead

Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead, thanked the community for their support and praised their efforts. As a thank you to the community, he also stated that a cape design that reflects the review score dip will be accessible in-game. It is clear that Arrowhead is dedicated to providing a great player experience, and they deserve praise for their prompt response to community criticism.
