The highly anticipated Counter-Strike 2 project Team Falcons, backed by Saudi investors, has encountered a major setback. Despite soaring expectations following an impressive top-four finish at IEM Katowice, the team's journey to CS2's inaugural Major in Denmark has been abruptly halted due to their recent elimination from the RMR.
The Falcons' aspirations took a nosedive on February 16th when they suffered a defeat against the Russian powerhouse, AMKAL Esports, in the PGL Copenhagen Major Europe RMR A event. This defeat not only dashed their hopes of competing in the upcoming Major but also means that prominent figures like coach zonic and seasoned player Magisk will be absent from the tournament, unable to defend their BLAST Paris Major crown.
Magisk, expressing his disappointment succinctly on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), referred to the loss as the "most disappointing moment" of his career. The defeat came in the form of a reverse-sweep by AMKAL, a team formed during the offseason, led by Aleksey “NickelBack” Trofimov, and boasting a core lineup from 1win.
The intensity of the match was palpable, particularly during the decider map Mirage, where AMKAL showcased remarkable resilience, securing victory in overtime after a series of clutch plays. Meanwhile, the Falcons struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, despite standout performances from players like Pavle “Maden” Bošković.
With their dreams of attending the first CS2 Major dashed, the Falcons face an uncertain future. Despite earlier attempts to bolster their roster with the likes of NiKo and Twistzz, both players opted for different paths, leaving the team to grapple with the aftermath of their recent setback.

As the dust settles, questions loom over the Falcons' roster and their ability to regroup in time for upcoming events, such as the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown in March. Meanwhile, AMKAL secures their position in the RMR decider bracket, poised to potentially further their success in the tournament.
