The Apex Legends esports scene recently saw a groundbreaking moment as Phoenix Legacy made headlines with a majority-female roster in the SLHD. Kornelia “Sabz” Zawistowska and Kyri “Kyri” Taha, alongside David “AlphaDraft” Ciura, not only competed but secured a commendable ninth place, outshining even the week one winners Element 6.

This achievement, until January 27, 2024, stood unparalleled in the history of Apex Legends Pro Leagues, where having more than one woman on a team simultaneously was a rarity. Phoenix Legacy's daring move is now seen as a potential catalyst for increased gender diversity in the ALGS. Luminosity Gaming’s “WeThePeople” hailed Sabz and Kyri as trailblazers, expressing admiration for their ability to "inspire girls around the world."

NiceWigg, taking a more direct route, dubbed the duo as absolute "demons" owing to their exceptional skills. The impact of their performance extends beyond the matches, influencing perceptions of women's capabilities in the esports arena.

Kyri, a newcomer to ALGS, shared insights into the challenges faced by the team during the historic event. Overcoming tough zone pulls, internet outages, and navigating new team dynamics, she credited her teammates, highlighting Alpha's strategic leadership and Sabz's proficiency as a Wattson anchor.

In a conversation with Dot Esports, Kyri emphasized her proactive communication style as a fragger, always guiding the team on when to peak and swing together. The synergy among the team members, despite the challenges, underscored the significance of skill and teamwork.

Notably, Sabz is also affiliated with TSM’s women-only team, an initiative launched in January 2023 to promote women's participation in Apex Legends. This move has spurred other top-tier organizations like Luminosity Gaming to invest in women-only rosters, competing in dedicated tournament circuits.
