Many players believe that Fortnite's most recent update patch for Chaper 5 Season 1 has improved the aim assist feature considerably. The primary update for Fortnite's Battle Royale mode has split players' views; some believe it even the odds against players who use a mouse and keyboard, while others are against the idea of assisted aiming altogether.

The v28.10 update was officially released by Fortnite on 23rd January. It brought a ton of new content along with a number of additions and changes. The popular Metal Gear Solid series' Solid Snake and a few of Snake's accessories, like the Cardboard Box and EMP Stealth Camo, are now playable in Fortnite. The patch notes for Fortnite's latest update, which included balance changes for a number of weapons and gameplay features, strangely omitted aim assistance.

GabeCFN, a Twitter/X user, allegedly tweeted out the game's update files and claimed a significant boost to aim assist, according to Dexerto. This was the initial mention of the aim assist buff in Fortnite. Following his post of the aforementioned game files, GabeCFN began posting clips of other Fortnite players noticing the changes to the aiming. The player appears to be able to track opponents through walls in content creator thekidswayy's play clip, which effectively "demonstrates" the enhanced aim assist feature. Though it could be helpful for one of the most recent Fortnite Weekly Quests, competitive players believe that the improved aim assistance is a mistake.

Aim assist has been the subject of a lot of conversation in recent weeks, and some first-person shooter games have drawn criticism for it. The most recent and notable example is the popular free-to-play game, The Finals. Players urgently requested changes to the game last month after posting examples of how much of an aid aim assist they had received. The game has a large player base. Given the noise generated by its users, Fortnite might follow suit. As a result, The Finals updated the feature to better balance it and addressed concerns about aim assistance.

While Fortnite hasn't acknowledged publicly that it improved its aim assist, preliminary community feedback seems to indicate that this is the case. In the upcoming days and weeks, it should be interesting to observe how all Fortnite players respond to the changes and whether any adjustments to aim assistance are implemented as a result. For now, players will have to adapt, or those who prefer the optimal Fortnite aim assistance settings can manually change the feature.
