Wolfe Glick, the 2016 Pokémon World Champion, once again made history at the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet 2024 Charlotte Regionals. With a staggering 845 participants, this in-person VGC spectacle stands as the largest Pokémon tournament to date. Glick's triumph, his eighth regional title, showcased his prowess in a competition that surpassed the 2023 Orlando Regionals, drawing 780 competitors.

On the fateful day of 21st January, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Glick showcased not just his skills but a historic achievement. Having clinched victories in regionals, internationals, and a World Championship, this win underscored its significance by being the largest VGC event ever.

Glick's journey to victory was marked by an outstanding 17-1 record. In a departure from his penchant for off-meta selections in the previous season, Glick assembled a powerhouse team for 2024. Comprising Flutter Mane, Urshifu (Rapid Strike), Farigiraf, Ogerpon (Hearthflame), Rillaboom, and the standout performer, Incineroar, this lineup was a force to be reckoned with.

Incineroar, a Pokémon Glick openly admitted to dreading, emerged as the linchpin of his triumphant strategy. Renowned for its ability to cycle in Fake Out, execute stat drops with Parting Shot, and leverage its Intimidate ability, Incineroar dominated the battlefield. Glick's strategic acumen shone through as he manipulated Incineroar's versatility, constantly swapping it in and out for superior positioning and debilitating the opponent's Pokémon.

What sets Incineroar apart is its unique role as a disruptor, influencing the flow of the battle without always being the primary damage dealer. Glick's success with Incineroar in this tournament reaffirmed its status as a top-tier contender in competitive play.

While some players had reservations about Incineroar, citing its underwhelming performance at the Portland Regionals, Glick's masterful display has reignited the fervor around the Fire Starter Pokémon. As Glick boldly proclaimed, "Incineroar is the king, and I think he's back, baby." The echoes of this sentiment reverberate through the Pokémon VGC community, marking a resurgence for the once-questioned feline powerhouse.
