The excitement reached its pinnacle as the gameplay trailer of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown unfolded before an eagerly awaiting crowd. Hours emerged in The Lost Crown revealed a level of precision and style in its 2D action that even acclaimed the Ori series.
While the classic Prince of Persia had the ability to rewind time, The Lost Crown introduces a unique approach to this mechanic. Instead of rewinding the game to a previous point in time, Sargon can only rewind itself, and only to a specific point in time that you've previously identified. This may seem like a huge limitation, but it's perfect for The Lost Crown's combat and platforming. The gameplay trailer demonstrates how you can use this power to deflect enemy blows, stay out of traps, and pull off amazing combos. As in past Prince of Persia games, create a marker for yourself before attempting a difficult platforming challenge, and you can rewind if something goes wrong. Yet, more often than not, , you'll be using Rewind as a way to teleport around the battlefield, distracting your enemies and avoiding damage.
While the game may appear a bit complicated at first glance, once you get the hang of it, it's more technically challenging. The marker you create will remember where you were in your current animation when you created it. So, if you're in the middle of the third hit of your three-hit-combo when you activate the marker, whenever you finally recall Sargon at that point, he'll automatically end the combo. This is how you set up those amazing sequences where you land a string of attacks on an enemy, dash behind it, crush it backwards, then use a big combo finisher to finish it off after teleporting back to your starting position.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown not only captures the essence of its classic predecessors but also elevates the gaming experience with its innovative approach to time manipulation.
