BLAST Premier's CS2 competitions are gearing up for a significant transformation in 2024. Recent reports from HLTV, particularly by Luís Mira, suggest that the renowned tournament organizer is set to expand its prestigious circuit to accommodate 16 teams, a move that follows Evil Geniuses' departure.
Speculations arose when Evil Geniuses relinquished their slot to Cloud9, prompting questions about BLAST's stability. Contrary to concerns, the third-party organizer is not only standing firm but is boldly embracing growth. According to insiders, new teams are poised to join the Premier lineup at the earliest opportunity. The decision to broaden the scope of competition stems from the overwhelming interest generated by Evil Geniuses' vacated slot. BLAST anticipates substantial financial gains, with each slot fetching a minimum of $350,000, as reported.
What makes this expansion particularly intriguing is its temporal context. Teams added to BLAST Premier will enjoy a brief one-year partnership, as 2025 marks the dissolution of the partnered league system. The reported slot value raises eyebrows, considering its steepness for a one-year membership that allegedly excludes access to revenue-sharing.
BLAST Premier holds a unique position as the final non-Major prestige event in the CS2 annual cycle not yet acquired by the ESL FACEIT Group. The potential consequences of its disappearance would reshape the competitive calendar, with ESL's Pro League becoming the sole prestigious league-style competition outside of Majors. Notably, the absence of the BLAST World Final could elevate the significance of the IEM series, particularly IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne, as they vie for dominance on the esports calendar.

The delicate balance between maintaining an open scene and ensuring financial viability will be tested as Counter-Strike enters a new era in 2025.
