G2 Esports, a powerhouse in the world of Counter-Strike 2, is gearing up for a major transformation as they welcome the legendary Polish player, Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas, into the coaching role. This strategic move follows the departure of Jan "Swani" Müller and marks a significant shift in the team's dynamics.
TaZ Replaces Swani as the S2 Head Coach in G2 Esports
Having concluded his illustrious 20-year playing career in March, TaZ embarks on a new journey with G2, officially stepping into his coaching role at the BLAST Premier World Finals in Abu Dhabi this week. The seasoned 37-year-old is set to fully take the reins in 2024, succeeding Swani and ushering in a fresh era for the team.

TaZ's venture into coaching comes eight months after bidding farewell to competitive Counter-Strike, making him the second member of the legendary Virtus Pro core to transition into coaching, following NEO's move to FaZe Clan in July. Remarkably, TaZ, alongside Snax, who continues to compete at GamerLegion, demonstrates the enduring relevance of the VP core well beyond their historic exploits in the mid-2010s.
Boasting over two decades of experience, TaZ brings a wealth of knowledge to G2. His impressive track record includes a Major Championship from 12 appearances at the pinnacle tournament. Although he hasn't graced the Major stage as a competitor since 2018, his coaching role with G2 provides a golden opportunity to vie for such prestigious heights in 2024.
The challenge ahead for TaZ is formidable. Swani, who guided G2 to the summit of the Counter-Strike world throughout 2023, leaves behind a legacy marked by four S-Tier titles, including triumphs at IEM Katowice and Cologne. Swani's departure coincides with a challenging period for G2, grappling with adjustments following the addition of Nemanja "nexa" Isaković and the benching of Justin "jks" Savage.

Recent setbacks at the CCT Online Finals Five, where G2 suffered defeats to seemingly inferior teams like Aurora Gaming and Guild Eagles, underscore the team's need for stability. TaZ's tenure officially commences in 2024, but his influence is already felt as he guides G2 through their final event of 2023 in Abu Dhabi, with the BLAST Premier World Finals commencing on Dec. 13. As G2 prepares for this crucial tournament, all eyes are on TaZ to steer the team toward a triumphant new chapter.
