Destiny 2's Season of the Wish is here. This season brings new rewards and activities. In addition to these, the new season will also bring a brand-new dungeon - Warlord’s Ruin. Although they don't require the six-player squads of Destiny 2's raids, these three-player activities that resemble raids are among the hardest and most complex in the game. Warlord's Ruin, the new dungeon, is scheduled to launch on 1st December.
Although we don't have much details about Warlord's Ruin, we do know when it will launch and what kind of rewards you can expect. As we move closer to The Final Shape, the final expansion of the current plot, we can also make assumptions about what Warlord's Ruin signifies within the context of Destiny 2.
When is Warlords Ruin releasing?
Warlord Ruin is releasing on Friday, 1st December at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET. An update of the game is also expected to come around that time.
How to access Warlords Ruin?
Warlord's Ruin is a paid piece of content, and not free like other content in Destiny 2. You must either have the Lightfall expansion and its yearly pass (usually $100, but currently available on Steam at a discounted price for $40) or purchase the Lightfall Dungeon Key in order to access it. The Dungeon Key is available for purchase on the Eververse Store's Expansions tab, but it will cost 2,000 Silver, or about $20.
What is the place of Warlord's Ruin in the story?
Except the name, we don't know much about Warlord's Ruin yet, but from Destiny 2 lore, we can share a few details.
The icon displayed in the dungeon's Collections tab indicates that it will contain enemies that are considered Scorn. A brief description that reads, "Uncover buried histories and lingering grudges within a ruined Dark Age castle," also contains some clues.
As the name implies, warlords were terrible people. They arose in the aftermath of the apocalyptic Collapse that destroyed the technological Golden Age that began with the Traveler's arrival, during the Dark Age in Destiny's history. At that time, humans were dispersed throughout the solar system and frequently hunted by the Fallen and other extraterrestrial forces. Quite similar to mediaeval feudal lords, warlords would alternate between protecting their subjects, victimising them, enslaving or killing anyone else who got in their way. But not all of them were bad. Crucible vendor Lord Shaxx was a warlord who also tried to defend his people.
Warlords are typically mentioned in reference to the Iron Lords, the original Lightbearers who came before the Guardians. The Iron Lords were former warlords who fought a number of battles against different warlords in order to specifically defend humanity and oppose the oppressor. Warlord's Ruin would tell a story strongly associated with the Iron Lords, among them Lord Saladin, the final member of their group with whom we come into contact. Although another Iron Lord, Lady Efrideet, is theoretically still alive, we haven't seen her since the Rise of Iron expansion for Destiny 1 back in 2016.
