In the current scenario of changing dynamics, the virtual gaming world witnessed a lot of new additions. But eventually, some of them are not popular anymore. In a surprise twist of virtual fate and popularity, the famous multiplayer games like Battlefield, Halo, and Crysis gradually lost their once thriving player bases. Nowadays, players prefer fast-paced heart-pounding action FPS shooters which can give an adrenaline punch. Due to the shifting industry trends, the preferences have evolved. Now it depends on how these games will survive.

The history of these games and the current scenario

Battlefield, Halo, and Crysis are some of the popular games that had most of the player base. Due to their great storylines and multiplayer aspects, these games kept players entertained. If we look at the history of these games we can see that Halo and Battlefield are some long-running games that were first released in 2001 and 2002 respectively.

Halo Franchise

Originally developed by Bungie, the Halo franchise was based on its story. The game got its first multiplayer with the Halo 2. It allowed console players to experience online multiplayer modes. As time passed, Halo became a popular game among players and its main character Chief became quite popular among gamers as well as for cosplay. But the popularity of the game reduced as it came to the latest entry - Halo Infinite. There are numerous changes in the core gameplay mechanisms of the Halo Infinite multiplayer. But that was not enough to keep the game alive in this current trend of online FPS multiplayer shooters.

Battlefield Franchise

The shooter series developed by DICE and Electronic Arts first came out in 2002. The game became popular since it came out. Focusing on the various storylines with unique gunplays and themes that are based on past and futuristic aspects. Battlefield is known for its focus on the World War theme and bringing unique guns from that era. Players used to enjoy the game and eventually, they made their own moves while playing the multiplayer. The famous Rendezook, created by Stun_Gravy, a player of Battlefield 3 became so famous that the developers included it in Battlefield 2042, the latest addition. But Battlefield 2042 received a lot of negative reviews from the player base and eventually lost the number of players. The current popular title in the series is Battlefield V. The downfall of this game is because of its continuity of the same aspect. The multiplayer didn’t change and players got bored of it, with lots of bugs and problems, the game lost its popularity.

Crysis

The most hyped FPS game was developed by Crytek and published by Electronic Arts (EA). The game players enjoy military actions with technologically advanced Nanosuits. First, of its kind, the game brought major changes to the FPS category since its release in 2007. The most popular game in this series was Crysis 3 which featured great graphics and gameplay. But lack of productivity from developers led to the disappearance of this game. Ever since then, the game is no longer popular among players.

The virtual gaming world is moving fast and with technological advancements, gamers are more focused on fast-paced actions and FPS games. Hence, these games are unable to survive in this current scenario. Popular multiplayer  FPS titles like Valorant, Counter-Strike 2, and Call of Duty Warzone 2 are the leaders of Playerbase.
