In a recent development in the League of Legends community, DetonatioN FocusMe (DFM), the prominent Japanese esports organization, has been embroiled in a controversy involving internal harassment allegations. After a month-long investigation conducted by Riot Games and the League Japanese League (LJL), the findings have led to the suspension of former coaches and a fine imposed on the organization.
Ceros and Kazu Suspended From LoL Esports

The investigation centered on claims of internal harassment within DFM, a team that has long been a dominant force in the Japanese League of Legends scene, consistently representing the LJL at prestigious events like MSI and Worlds since 2018. The allegations raised serious concerns about the team's internal environment, prompting a comprehensive inquiry into the matter.

Following a thorough examination of the case, Riot and the LJL have unveiled the results of their investigation, which have led to concrete actions being taken against those involved. Kyohei “Ceros” Yoshida and Kazuta “Kazu” Suzuki, both former coaches of DFM, have been suspended from participation in any League of Legends esports for a duration of six months. Additionally, DFM's CEO, Nobuyuki “LGraN” Umezaki, will have to go through harassment education training conducted by an external party.

The investigation, conducted in accordance with the LJL official rulebook, identified violations relating to harassment and unethical behavior that persisted over a substantial period. These violations were found to be intended to isolate or demean individuals and infringe upon their dignity. As a consequence of these findings, DFM faces a 2,000,000 yen fine for failing to prevent harassment within the organization. Furthermore, DFM is obligated to implement and strengthen anti-harassment measures within the organization.

DetonatioN FocusMe Roster Changes

The fallout from this investigation has prompted a series of changes within DFM's ranks. The organization has pledged to enhance its internal communication and structure, aiming to prevent such incidents in the future. Notably, DFM reached an agreement with Haruki “tol2” Shibata, a top laner who had publicly disclosed instances of threats and verbal abuse from coaching staff, to terminate his contract. This change in roster has also led to Yuta “Yutapon” Sugira's role swap to top and the introduction of Ryo “Milan” Nakamoto as the new starting bot laner.

DFM's journey through this controversy has not deterred their competitive spirit. Despite the challenges, they remain strong contenders in the LJL, with an upcoming appearance in the grand finals of the LJL Playoffs against Fukuoka HAWKS Gaming. The victor of this series will earn the coveted spot to represent the league on the global stage at Worlds.
