KRÜ Esports defied all odds to stage a remarkable comeback in the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Americas' Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). Despite a winless regular season, the team demonstrated unwavering resilience and tenacity, earning themselves a coveted spot in this year's VCT Champions. KRÜ Esports showcased exceptional performance, leading them to an astounding 5-0 run throughout the qualifiers.
KRÜ’s Journey in VCT Americas LCQ
When the playoffs began, KRÜ Esports faced widespread skepticism, with many doubting their ability to make it past the opening series, let alone secure a place in the prestigious VCT Champions tournament. However, they silenced their critics with each successive victory, taking down formidable opponents from VCT Americas, including MIBR, FURIA, Leviatán (twice), and top seed Cloud9.
A significant turning point came when KRÜ Esports clashed with Leviatán in the upper-bracket semifinals. After Leviatán's astonishing reverse sweep against North American favorite, Cloud9, KRÜ faced a daunting challenge. But with sheer determination and coordinated gameplay, they managed to secure a critical win, strengthening their position in the tournament.
VCT Americas LCQ: KRÜ vs Leviatán Recap
In the intense best-of-five grand finals between two LATAM teams, KRÜ Esports and Leviatán, tension filled the air. The maps Split, Pearl, Ascent, and Lotus became the battlegrounds, with Leviatán managing to secure just one map in the series. However, KRÜ Esports displayed an exceptional level of dominance, particularly on Split and Ascent, and persevered through a nail-biting finish on Lotus to ultimately emerge victorious.
At the heart of this unprecedented comeback was Angelo "keznit" Mori, the team's primary duelist, who showcased his exceptional skills and leadership throughout the tournament. He was deservedly awarded the grand finals MVP, having amassed an impressive 73 kills during the final series.
Following their triumphant victory, KRÜ Esports' captain, Marco "Melser" Amaro, expressed his elation, describing the achievement as a dream come true. The team's unity and belief in their capabilities proved instrumental in their success. Additionally, keznit spoke highly of the KRÜ core, who have been playing together for a significant period, creating a cohesive and powerful lineup. It's worth noting that keznit's journey to KRÜ Esports was unique, as he joined the team in March after a stint with Leviatán, ultimately defeating his former team to secure a spot in VCT Champions.
With their spot secured in VCT Champions, KRÜ Esports is gearing up to face Paper Rex in the group stage. Paper Rex, who had an impressive run in Tokyo despite missing their star player, Ilya "something" Petrov, will be an equally formidable opponent. However, with KRÜ's exceptional performance and the return of Petrov to Paper Rex's lineup, the stage is set for an intense battle of skills and strategies.
