Valve, the developer of Dota 2, has taken decisive action to rectify the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) rankings after the conclusion of the highly anticipated Bali Major 2023. Following weeks of uncertainty, the rankings now accurately reflect the order initially presented by Liquipedia, providing much-needed clarity on the teams that have qualified for The International 2023 (TI12). While Valve has yet to make an official announcement on social media confirming the qualified teams, the rectification on the official Dota 2 website has brought a sigh of relief to the Dota 2 community.
Valve Rectifies Inaccurate DPC Rankings
In recent weeks, Valve's official DPC rankings had been displaying incorrect positions, sparking doubts about the teams' actual qualification for TI12. To compound the confusion, erroneous additions of points occurred after the Bali Major 2023, further muddying the waters of the DPC 2023 rankings. However, Valve has now corrected the rankings on their official website, aligning them with the accurate placements identified by Liquipedia. This adjustment brings transparency to the 12 teams that have rightfully secured their spot at TI12.
Valve's handling of DPC rankings has not been without controversy. In 2022, Virtus.pro (Outsiders) lost their presumed invitation to The International due to Valve's recalculations, sparking widespread debate and concerns over the accuracy and consistency of the ranking system. The community was left questioning the integrity of the process, urging Valve to take necessary steps to address these recurring issues.
The updated rankings following the Bali Major 2023 now provide a clearer understanding of the teams set to travel to Seattle for TI12. While the top 12 teams have secured their spots through the rankings, an additional eight teams will have the opportunity to qualify through regional qualifiers, scheduled to commence on August 17th. Each region will send at least one team, except for South America and Western Europe, which will field two teams each, intensifying the competition and global representation at TI12.
Valve's resolution of the DPC rankings issue after the Bali Major 2023 is a positive step towards restoring confidence in the Dota 2 community. The adjustments, in line with Liquipedia's rankings, demonstrate Valve's commitment to transparency and fairness in the qualification process for TI12. Although past controversies and inconsistencies have raised doubts about the accuracy of Valve's ranking system, the community eagerly anticipates the official announcement of the qualified teams and eagerly looks forward to the fierce battles that await at The International 2023.
