Berlin Dota 2 Major 2023 Playoffs Day 4 Recap
Following is the recap of the fourth day of Berlin Dota 2 Major 2023 Playoffs.
Lower Bracket Round 2
In the lower bracket round 2, Team Liquid faced off against China's Team Aster. Liquid began its day four rampage by crushing Aster in a 54-minute slugfest in game one, despite stand-in midlaner Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan's valiant last stand. Liquid continued its dominance in game two, with Nisha's Queen of Pain leading the way to secure the win and knock Aster out.
In the second match of the day, EG defeated Southeast Asian team Talon Esports in a late game thriller in game one before stomping it in game two. Talon was in the driver's seat to start the series, but EG's Faceless Void, anchored by Crhistian "Pakazs" Savina, slowly grew to a late game beast. In a decisive clash at the 41-minute mark, Pakazs survived a five-man gank before landing a four-man Chronosphere that gave EG the momentum to win game one. Talon put up a little fight in a 25-minute game two, and EG secured the series sweep.
Lower Bracket Quarterfinals
In the lower bracket quarterfinals, Liquid rode the momentum from their victory over Aster to dismantle The International 11 (TI11) champions Tundra Esports. The series saw 86 minutes of action, but it wasn't even close. Liquid accumulated 71 kills while only conceding 16 deaths throughout two games. In game one, Michael "miCKe" Vu led the way for Liquid, who managed to secure 14 kills and only suffered two deaths. Similarly, in the second game, he led his team to another win, this time playing as Bloodseeker, and scored an outstanding 17 kills with only one death, ultimately securing a resounding 40-10 kill lead to clinch the series.
Liquid has earned a Top 4 finish, along with a prize of US$50,000 and 350 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) points, based on today's outcomes. In the current season, Liquid has collected a minimum of 1,400 DPC points, making them the first team to earn a direct invite to this year's The International event, Dota 2's yearly multimillion dollar global championship. On the other hand, Tundra Esports, Talon Esports, and Team Aster have been disqualified from the Major.
