Contrary to previous industry rumours, Virtuos has denied any involvement in a PC version of Bloodborne. Days after a fresh rumour claimed the Bloodborne PC version was shelved due to issues with the Singapore-based developer.
Many fans of FromSoftware are still intrigued by the idea of a Bloodborne PC version because it was one of the most lauded PS4 exclusives of all time. Although if the latest report that Virtuos was working on porting the popular Souls-like game to Windows wasn't the first in recent memory, it didn't seem too unlikely given the developer's already-existing partnership with Sony. Namely, Virtuos was at the heart of PlayStation's historic entry into the PC gaming market, which began with its release of the PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn in August 2020.
Nevertheless, the studio has now addressed those allegations by making it clear that it never worked on porting Bloodborne to the PC. As a result, the idea that Sony cancelled that project is untrue because there was nothing to cancel. A company representative informed Game Rant that Virtuos further asserts that it has never participated in any conversations about FromSoftware's 2015 success. The remainder of the initial report, which said Sony opted against another Virtuos partnership after needing to recruit Guerilla Games' assistance to patch the PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn, was not addressed by the official statement.
The Horizon Zero Dawn PC launch was plagued by technical difficulties, according to the Netherlands-based studio, but the majority of these issues were eventually resolved, as shown by the game's present status and the largely positive Steam reviews.
Given this situation, it's plausible that the earlier rumour that Sony planned to assign Virtuos with the Bloodborne PC port still has some validity, even though the proposal was abandoned prior to having any actual negotiations with the Singapore-based firm. This development is the second time that FromSoftware supporters have been misled into believing that Bloodborne will be released on PC in less than a year. Early in 2022, a now-disproven report that Bloodborne Remastered was in development surfaced.
So far as we can tell, Bloodborne will continue to be exclusive to the PS4 for the foreseeable future. Although the PS5 does allow backward compatibility, the game's performance on Sony's newest machine merely improves loading times while maintaining the same unstable 30 frames-per-second frame rate as the original. Additionally, while the renowned Soulslike has been accessible on PC via the PlayStation Now streaming service since 2018, neither of these requirements is something that many PC gamers can meet. PS Now also needs a Sony controller and gigabit bandwidth.
