The statue of Jesus Christ in the Rio de Janeiro map Paraso mysteriously reflects all missiles directed at it with unerring accuracy, as was discovered by an Overwatch player messing around beyond the bounds of the map. This contrasts with Overwatch's famed cyborg-ninja Genji, whose ability to deflect projectiles only lasts for a maximum of two seconds and requires players to employ it at precisely the right moment. Reddit user OmicronGaming made the finding and shared it there.

The obvious explanation for this is that it is a miracle, an act of divine providence on the part of God to safeguard the famed statue of Christ the Redeemer, known locally as Cristo Redentor.

In fact, as the video demonstrates, Christ's heavenly protection covers not only the statue itself but also Corcovado Mountain, upon which it is perched. In the video, the player controls Pharah, a flying hero and rocket launcher, who attacks the monument from a great height with both a swarm of rockets and single rockets. Each is delivered at what seems to be an awkward angle. God could probably deflect the arrows back at you like Genji can, but out of mercy, he chooses not to.

Despite his enhanced nature, Genji is still just a man, which limits his ability to perfectly deflect all projectiles. Genji's abilities include the cyber-agility to quickly scale vertical surfaces and change route mid-jump as well as the mighty power to unleash the "Dragonblade" and terminate his enemies. Genji's mortal nature prevents him from achieving the kind of perfection found in God's Son Jesus.

Even putting the humour aside, it's not shocking that the generally lighthearted Overwatch forbids players from desecrating a statue that holds religious significance to many of the world's roughly 2.4 billion Christians. It's probably for the best, though readers were quick to point out that neither the Notre Dame in Paris nor the Churches of King's Row maps are covered by this protection. Of course, this is hardly Cristo Redentor's first videogame appearance. With 2005's Civilisation 4, Cristo Redentor has played a significant role in the series. He also previously made an appearance as a landmark in the Call of Duty series.
