The Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars companion book to the television series Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has a free preview chapter online. The sample offers a sneak peek at some of the plot beats from Cal Kestis' adventures that take place following the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order before the book's previously stated March 7 release.
According to what is currently known about Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars, the book aims to expand on both the general Star Wars canon and the Sith Order of Inquisitors in particular, in addition to bridging the gap between Fallen Order and its sequel. Sam Maggs, well known for writing The Fangirl's Guide to the Galaxy and Marvel Action: Captain Marvel, is the author of the book. Having previously contributed writing to well-known projects like Anthem, Call of Duty: Vanguard, and The City That Never Sleeps DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man, Maggs also has an impressive background in game production.
Five years have passed after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's predecessor, Fallen Order. It only makes reasonable that Cal would find himself in some form of dispute because five years is a considerable period of time during which a lot can occur. Though the precise time in the history for this book is still unknown, its cover suggests that it takes place "years" before Survivor, making Fallen Order more likely to be the setting.
The Stinger Mantis crew must assist an Imperial Stormtrooper who is trying to defect, according to the main idea of the novel. In return, they provide details about a "powerful, maybe priceless tool for their fight against the Empire." The ex-Stormtrooper can assist them in getting there, but it will unavoidably get the crew into problems, especially with the Fifth Brother, one of the Sith Inquisitors.
Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars will be a hardcover and digital book, with the former including optional narration by veteran actor Sean Kenin Elias-Reyes, who has narrated half a dozen Star Wars audiobooks. This was previously announced by publisher Random House Worlds. The novel was originally scheduled to appear far sooner than the next game, but after Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was struck with a six-week delay in early February, its March 7 release date stayed constant.
The next action RPG set in space is not the only book coming out around the same time as Battle Scars. The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a canon reference book released by Dark Horse, was also announced by Lucasfilm back in August 2022. It will be available for purchase on May 2. Concept art from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's production will be included, along with developer commentary from Respawn Entertainment's creatives.
