The follow-up to the critically acclaimed Valiant Hearts: The Great War, Valiant Hearts: Coming Home, is now only accessible to Netflix subscribers via the Netflix mobile app. James, a member of the Harlem Hellfighters, the first predominantly African American infantry unit to fight in World War I, is one of four everyday people whose tales are told in the game as they cope with the devastating nature of war. Despite being fictional, the game's characters are based on actual occurrences. Maya Loréal, manager of inclusive games and content, and Dr. John H. Morrow Jr., historian of World War I, were interviewed by Ubisoft News to learn more about Black history during World War I and how they contributed to making sure the stories in Valiant Hearts: Coming Home are respectful and accurate.

The first of three games that Ubisoft pledged to create for Netflix as part of an exclusive agreement announced in September 2022 is the follow-up to the highly lauded 2014 puzzle adventure Valiant Hearts: The Great War. The sequel, like its predecessor, portrays a fictional character's story in a historical setting that was inspired by actual events. Players this time around command James, a soldier in the 369th U.S. Infantry Regiment, also known as the Harlem Hellfighters due to their past service in the 15th New York National Guard.

Dr. Morrow Jr. said that the Harlem Hellfighters never lost any captives or ground to a German attack, demonstrating just how exceptional this regiment was that is recognised by the new Valiant Hearts game. In addition to having the best service record in AEF history, they were noted for their band's extraordinary talent, which was directed by well-known composer James Reese Europe. The historian adds that the Harlem Hellfighters' legacy as not only heroic soldiers but also cultural ambassadors was cemented when the Hellfighters Band, according to the name of its bandleader, succeeded in spreading jazz to the Old Continent.
Valiant Hearts: Coming Home's soundtrack received extra consideration from Ubisoft because of the game's historical theme.

According to Dr. Morrow Jr., jazz in especially served as a unifying force that cut through ethnic and cultural barriers on the Western Front, providing the Harlem Hellfighters' warriors with more than simply amusement. All of those and more are things that Valiant Hearts: Coming Home aims to reveal.

A Mighty Quest for Epic Loot sequel and a new Assassin's Creed game are the two Netflix exclusives that Ubisoft is currently working on. Later this year, both are scheduled for mobile device distribution. In addition to its collaboration with Netflix, Ubisoft has further mobile games scheduled for 2023.
