This week, Electronic Arts announced that The Sims 4: Legacy Edition, one of the game's editions, would no longer be accessible for download as of December 12. This announcement marked the death of yet another game. It is a product that is similar to The Sims 4 in many aspects, but it is intended to be played on older machines, therefore there are restrictions on what versions and features it can support. The Sims 4 players are advised to migrate their saves over to ensure a seamless transition and to find a way to upgrade their systems if they want to keep playing The Sims 4.

To the disappointment of those who were still playing The Sims 4: Legacy Edition, the game's end was revealed this week. For people using 32-bit systems, it was first made available in 2019. The Legacy Edition won't be accessible after December 12 because those systems are no longer supported.

EA advises utilizing macOS 10.11 or higher if you're using a Mac. PC gamers should make sure their system is 64-bit capable. After fulfilling one of those conditions, you can continue playing The Sims 4 on either the Standard Edition or Deluxe Edition, depending on which version you own.

If you don't want to start from scratch, you should also bring your savings with you. The guidelines for doing this were provided by EA:

  • Navigate to Documents.

  • Activate Electronic Arts.

  • The Sims 4 Legacy Edition folder should be copied.

  • Change the file's name to The Sims 4 and move it to the same location on your new computer (Documents/Electronic Arts).

  • Start the game.

Other than declaring it was saying "goodbye to Legacy Edition" and that the choice would no longer be available, EA failed to give any particular reasons for why this version of The Sims 4 will not be available anymore. Following recent EA pronouncements regarding games like Army of Two: The 40th Day and OnRush, among others, losing support, comes the end of the Legacy Edition. Beyond those particular games, it has also been suggested that EA might discontinue the Project CARS and Dirt game series. However, in addition to other games, the firm is also working on other Marvel games, so players may still anticipate those.
