As the social media network seems to be hurtling towards its impending extinction, Twitter users are in a panic. Yes, it appears that the moment has finally come. Elon Musk revealed earlier this year that he would be purchasing Twitter for over $40 billion, much exceeding its estimated value.

Many voiced doubts, while others were interested in what Musk could accomplish with the platform. It was a contentious subject, and as time went on, the court saga and the billionaire's public antics only made things murkier. Since Musk acquired complete control in October, the show has been on. The platform has lost advertisers, users have started impersonating businesses on Twitter, Musk sacked half the staff, made modifications that staff members said would actually harm the website over time, and much more. What a ride it's been!

However, that journey might be coming to an end. Elon Musk reportedly gave Twitter employees the following choice: Commit to working long hours and crunching numbers at Twitter for the foreseeable future, or resign and receive three months' severance pay. Employee badge access was reportedly revoked, and Twitter's offices were briefly shut down.

Approximately 75% of employees, according to tech reporter Kylie Robertson, accepted the severance offer. She added that many of the remaining employees are people with work permits, which puts them in a precarious position. According to Platformer editor Zoe Schiffer, Musk and executives have shut down operations until November 21st due to their concern that staff members will try to damage Twitter. Having said that, users of Twitter are having a blast as they get ready for the site to go up in flames.

Twitter users are letting their followers know where to look for them or, if the ship sinks, to just let them disappear from the internet. Some people are more optimistic about the platform's future and believe it may temporarily disappear before coming back. In any case, it appears like people are getting ready for the end as more and more indications point to Twitter's extinction.
