The gorgeous diorama-based puzzle game Lego Bricktales from developer ClockStone has a release date and will be available on October 12 for Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. With the aid of a cute robot friend, players in the March-announced Lego Bricktales game journey through five exquisite brick-based dioramas: a lush jungle, sun-drenched desert, bustling city corner, mediaeval castle, and tropical island—as they set out on a mission to assist their grandfather in revitalising his dilapidated amusement park.
In the ensuing adventure, players are challenged to solve a specific problem by constructing anything from a finite number of bricks, such as a flyable, physics-based gyrocopter or a bridge to cross a river. This challenge is based on Lego Bricktales' brick-by-brick building mechanic.
Some people might compare LEGO Bricktales to the upcoming LEGO Builder's Journey in 2019. This allowed them to finish a distinctive plot while creating LEGO structures in-game. The two projects don't seem to be related, though, and LEGO Bricktales seems to have a far wider scope for construction and narration.
Aside from the main plot of Bricktales, there are other buildings to finish at Grandpa's amusement park and a Sandbox Mode that allows players to revisit earlier tasks and modify their creations with additional bricks from various themes. Additionally, collectibles must be found in order to open new wardrobe pieces and Sandbox brick colors. All of this is available when Lego Bricktales debuts on October 12 for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch.
In general, it is probably a positive thing that there are more LEGO games that provide a digital LEGO-building experience. There is a rationale for the popularity of imaginative video games like Terraria and Minecraft. Like LEGO Builder's Journey, LEGO Bricktales is a little project in comparison yet offers intriguing concepts. Soon, LEGO fans will be able to judge for themselves whether LEGO Bricktales lives up to the hype.
