Steam's latest hardware survey has been released. The results for August 2022 show that Nvidia continues to dominate the market for GPUs whereas Windows 11 is increasingly being adopted.

If we look into the GPU results, GTX 1060 remains the most used card. The RTX 30 series is gradually making profit with market share- the 3060 held around 4-5% between May and July but has jumped to over 6% in August. The 3050, 3060 Ti, and 3070 also made profit. This is due to the falling prices that provided opportunity to upgrade the aging cards for a reasonable price.

The highest ranked AMD card is the RX 580 with 1.24% of market share. The highest-ranked current generation GPU is the RX 6600 XT that doesn't even crack 1%. AMD will be hoping that its mid-range RDNA 3 models can do better.

The CPU results have not changed in recent times. Intel maintains a roughly 2:1 advantage. AMD can't be too unhappy regarding that given the situation it found itself in a few years ago where this much share was a dream. Quad and hex core CPUs are the most popular now though there is a trend away from quad core models in the recent months.

Both AMD and Intel will launch new CPU families in the coming weeks thus the Steam results over the next six months should be interesting.

Another interesting information is the slight pickup in the move toward Windows 11. It is still nothing on the Windows 10 adoption rate but the ownership has increased from 20% to 25% so it is clear that Windows 10 will continue to gradually decline.

So far 1080p is the most popular monitor resolution though it dropped its share a bit. So did 1440p share where you would expect upgraders to be present. This is due to the increased number of lower-resolution laptop screens.

Steam's hardware survey is not a definitive analytical tool as not everybody are gamers but it does not provide us a good knowledge about the market. We are waiting for a new reset in the next few months as new CPUs and GPUs will find their way into the survey.
