Along with a number of new software enhancements, Sony has released a new PS5 update that fully supports 1440p resolution. While the resolution was initially supported by a firmware update for the PS5 beta, Sony has announced that it will now be accessible to all console owners worldwide. A game that supports 1440p will automatically output at that resolution to match your monitor if you're playing it. Improved anti-aliasing is used to downscale games from higher native resolutions, like 4K, to 1440p.

The console could only output in 1080p and 4K resolutions before this update. The output of the PS5 would be automatically lowered to 1080p if you attempted to connect it to a 1440p display, wasting the extra pixels. With this update, you can finally take use of the high quality that your display is capable of, without having to buy the greatest 4K TV.

That's a substantial improvement that has been long overdue. One of the more common resolutions outside of 4K and 1080p monitors is 1440p, especially among PC gamers who may utilize their workstation monitor as their primary console display. When compared to the Xbox Series X|S, which has supported the resolution since its release, the PS5's lack of support is very obvious.

A folder system is also included in the new PS5 release. Now that you can categories your games into specific "game lists," navigating your library will be simpler. To make one, select "Create Game list" from the "Your Collection" option. You may organize all of the disc, digital, and streaming games you have on your system into up to 15 folders, each holding 100 games. There are also a few fresh social features available. Through the voice chat menu, you can now ask a party member to share their screen with you in order to see their gameplay in real time. To support the tool, the PlayStation app has also been upgraded.

Additionally, it is now simpler to join your friends' games. Every time you join a party where someone is already playing a game, a new notice will appear inviting you to join them. It eliminates a few button presses, albeit it is hardly groundbreaking. The YouTube app for the PS5 has also been enhanced by Sony, enabling voice commands for video search.
