Nintendo's official Pro Controller may face competition from a new line of gamepads unveiled by controller company 8BitDo. The third-party maker redesigned the 8BitDo Ultimate Wired Controller for the Nintendo Switch after introducing it earlier this year for the Xbox Series X|S. The 8BitDo Ultimate Controller is comparable to the official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller in terms of high-end functionality and is offered in wired and wireless versions.

It is a gamepad that is quite configurable. Its analogue sticks, triggers, and buttons' sensitivity can all be adjusted, and even the vibration's level may be changed. Additionally, it has two rear paddles that may be used to programme macro shortcuts, which enable you to convert a lengthy series of button presses into a single action. All of those sliders can be customized to your preferences using a PC, an Android, or an iOS app. Your choices can be saved across three personalized profiles, and you can switch between them instantly with a single button click.

An affordable alternative

Despite its wealth of functionality, 8BitDo is marketing this new Ultimate Controller as an economical choice, much like it did with its earlier gamepads. The wireless model costs $69.99 (about £60/AU$100), which is around the same retail price as the official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. It can connect to Nintendo Switch, PC, Android, and iOS devices.

You can save money by purchasing a $49.99 (about £43 / AU$73) model that includes a wireless adapter but isn't Bluetooth-enabled if all you want to do is connect it to a PC. Both wireless variants come in black, white, or pink and feature a charging port. The connected version is also available for $34.99 (about £30 or AU$50).

Even while there are other third-party Switch controllers available for less money, including the PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller, none of them have as many features or provide the same amount of customization. Additionally, this new controller appears to be a good alternative for PC gamers who don't want to spend the money on an expensive Xbox Wireless Controller.

The SN30 Pro and Pro 2 controllers, which sported solid construction and wide platform compatibility at a reasonable price, was where 8BitDo initially gained notoriety. The 8BitDo Pro 2 Wired Controller for Xbox, in our opinion, was a superb cheap controller as well because it provided a staggering number of functions and customizability. On Amazon (opens in new tab), the 8BitDo Ultimate Controller is already available for pre-order in the US. It will be delivered on October 28. On that day, we anticipate it will debut in more areas.
