Ingrid Oliveira Bueno da Silva, also known as Sol a professional Call of
Duty Mobile player, was reportedly fatally stabbed on February 23, 2021, in
So Paulo, Brazil, by Guilherme Alves Costa, another Esports competitor.
According to the player's confession, the defendant received a 14-year
prison term a year and a half later. On Monday night, August 15, 2022,
Justice So Paul announced the court's ruling. According to the magistrate's
ruling, the prisoner cannot apply for freedom:
I strongly believe the accusatory request in order to convict Guilherme
Alves Costa, qualified in the case, as in progress in the crime provided
for in art. 121, §2, I, and III, the Penal Code, to the penalty of 14
(fourteen) years of imprisonment, in an initial closed regime. I fail to
grant him the right to appeal for freedom. The reasons that led to the
decree of their custody persist, now reinforced by the conviction.
Oliveira, a 19-year-old Call of Duty player, communicated with Costa, also
known online as Flashlight. They both met each other online and quickly
become close friends because of their shared passion for gaming, notably
Call of Duty Mobile. After spending about a month getting to know each
other through Call of Duty Mobile, Costa travelled to Oliveira's house in the
Pirituba district, situated to the north of Sao Paulo, where he repeatedly
stabbed her.
When Costa posted a few pictures of Sol's body on his WhatsApp group
following the heinous act, the horrifying crime was initially identified. Alves
Costa was taken into custody less than 30 minutes after the murder thanks
to one of the organisations, the Gamers Elite, who immediately alerted the
local authorities to the crime.
Costa displayed no sorrow or regret following his arrest by the law
enforcement officers and continued to post a few photographs to his
WhatsApp group. He boldly stated that he had plotted the murder even if
the true motivation for the heinous deed is still unknown. After that, the
incident was reported as a homicide. However, justice was finally carried
out after a year and a half when Costa was sentenced to 14 years in prison
for his crimes. Costa will be required to go through regular check-ups and
psychological follow-ups while he is incarcerated.
