There are a lot of questions that have been answered by Sega’s senior executive vice president Koichi Fukazawa, and executive vice president Makoto Takahashi during the Q1 briefing for March 2023. There was a question related to Sega's decision whether to postpone the release of Sonic Frontiers or not. Sega's reply was, "We do not consider postponing the launch at this point."
They said that they are focusing on the parts that are linked with the development timeline and building empathy with the users. They also mentioned that Sonic IP is a mainstay title that they will sell over the long term and will keep on making it strong from now on. The execs expect Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to be successful and would have a direct effect on Sonic Frontiers sales.
Their statement proves that they are having high expectations for Sonic Frontiers which shall be launched this winter. In the previous film, repeat sales grew and Sonic's business got a positive boost soon after the release of the film. Now, since it is bigger than the last time, the expectations regarding the film have increased and along with the expectation of expanding the reach of Sonic IP, they are also aiming for a new title.
In an interview, Sonic Team Studio stated that there have no plans to delay Sonic Frontiers. They have achieved a lot of fame and received love from the public in the playtest results. So, they said the game will be delayed only if the entire development team gets coronavirus, or if they all are hospitalized. If there's no such case then there won't be any delay at all.
They are working with their team in Japan so that the game can be made available this holiday to let players buy the game, pick it up, take it home and have fun.
Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley stated this week that "a world premiere new look and news about Sonic Frontiers" will be shown during the live show on August 23rd. Sonic Frontiers is set to release for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC. We are still waiting for the publisher to confirm the game's release date.
