Grand Final LA Thieves 5-2 Atlanta FaZe 12PM 3PM 8PM
The weekend of the 2022 Call of Duty Championship got off to a fast start. All
four of the opening rounds were drawn out, with two of them culminating in a
showdown consisting of 11 rounds. The second game between the Boston
Breach and the Los Angeles Thieves was delayed by a server issue for more
than an hour, but when it finally started, it was worth the wait. The rounds on
Friday didn't feature as many close contests, with Toronto Ultra easily
defeating Boston Breach, and LA Thieves proving their characterization as
overrated by thrashing a weak side from OpTic Texas.
In other matches, FaZe triumphed to send Seattle Surge into the losers
bracket, and London Royal Ravens were eliminated after losing to New York
Subliners by a razor-thin margin. Another delay impacted the highly awaited
OpTic Texas vs. New York Subliners showdown after the GreenWall seized a
2-0 lead. This came after the Seattle Surge team had defeated Toronto Ultra in
a quickfire 3-1. After things got resolved, OpTic Texas promptly defeated the
Subliners with a 3-0 margin to send them packing.
Losing against LA Thieves 3-1 prevented the FaZe Clan from getting glorified
as champions, sending them into the losers bracket. Just after Surge crushed
OpTic in a 3-1 series, they ultimately faced Seattle in the Losers Bracket
championship game.
Atlanta defeated the Surge's tsunami with a 3-1 margin in order to force a
rematch with LA Thieves in the Grand Finals, but unfortunately, their
momentum was fleeting. They lost the Grand Final against LA Thieves 4-0
because they couldn't get anything going and were simply outmatched, even
on the hardpoint maps where they had far superior starts.
The beginnings of a comeback were laid, pulling the series back to 4-2, but
they were unable to finish Search and Destroy in the Tuscan map from a 5-3
advantage, handing LA Thieves the map and series victory, as well as the CDL
Championship trophy.
