At England's inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championship held in
Birmingham, the Indian Dota 2 team took home the bronze medal. Moin Ejaz,
the team's in-game captain, was joined by Ketan Goyal, Abhishek Yadav,
Shubhnam Goli, and Vishal Vernekar to lift the trophy for India. In a best-of-
three matchup for third place, India faced New Zealand and defeated the team
2-0. The Indian team performed admirably during the group rounds, but it was
unable to defeat Malaysia in the semi-finals, hence the 3 rd position.

Having a total of 18 medals won across physical competitions at the
Commonwealth Games, the Indian contingent has excelled. The bronze
medal won by the Dota 2 Indian team at the competition further served to
illustrate the potency of Indian Esports. The Asian Games 2022, which would
take place in September 2023, is going to be Dota 2 Indian team's next
destination. The squad will go to Hangzhou, China, to compete at the 19th
Asian Games in China.

The captain of the Dota 2 Indian team, Moin Ejaz, commented in the post-
match interview that the bronze medal in Dota 2 was the team's best finish.
Win symbolizes the amount of hard work the team has put in over the years
and we dedicate this win to our country. Winning a medal at the
Commonwealth was a dream for us and we're super proud as a team,”
reflected Moin Ejaz after the team’s victory over New Zealand.

The captain further believes that perhaps the victory would inspire additional
Esports competitions centered on Dota 2 and other video games in the Indian
market.

In addition to Dota 2, the upcoming 19 th Asian Games shall also contain Arena
of Valor, Dream of the Three Kingdoms, FIFA, Hearthstone, League of
Legends, PUBG Mobile, and Street Fighter V. There will be award
competitions for all eight Esports titles to showcase events. Along with these
competition categories have also been introduced for AESF Robot Masters
and AESF VR Sports), respectively.

It really is an intriguing decision to include robotics and virtual reality (VR) in
the Esports category, and Indian viewers will be interested to watch athletes
from their nation compete. Professional Indian Hearthstone player Tirth Mehta
won a bronze medal for India at the last Asian Games, and the Indian team
also has high expectations for 2022.
