This year's BBC Proms event honoring video game music is now accessible online. Every summer, the Royal Albert Hall in London hosts the annual music festival, but this is the first time that the classical music festival has included a concert specifically devoted to video game music.
The event, titled Gaming Prom - From 8-Bit to Infinity, was held earlier this week and was presented by Louise Blain, producer of the outstanding Sound of Gaming podcast on BBC Sounds, and Steffan Powell, a BBC gaming correspondent.
According to the BBC, "For the first time, the BBC Proms dedicates an entire concert to gaming music." BBC also mentioned that The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is led by conductor Robert Ames in this carefully designed concert that takes listeners on a musical journey from 8-bit to Infinity.
The concert's opening of two newly commissioned works, Chronos and Pokémon Red, as well as instantly recognizable digital sound effects, will undoubtedly bring back memories for millennials.
The program's centerpiece is the lavish orchestral soundtrack from Final Fantasy VIII and Kingdom Hearts, which is followed by the European concert debut of Hildur Gunadóttir and Sam Slater's experimental Battlefield 2042 score.
