The Metaverse is a virtual setting where individuals may interact, have fun, and work, designed by Facebook (now called Meta), has made several significant claims. A new patent application by the business might unveil one of its ambitions for Metaverse users. Players in virtual reality games like VR Chat already take pleasure in personalizing their avatars, dressing differently, and expressing themselves in other ways through their virtual personas. This new invention aims to introduce a little piece of the actual world into the Metaverse, even if some people might like disguising themselves as a computer avatar that doesn't resemble them.
Facebook has revealed intentions to create a system that would enable users to upload their apparel to the Metaverse in a patent that was released in late July. The system is made to capture many images of the person, which saves information about their physique as well as the color, shape, and design of what they're wearing. This data is then used to create two 3D meshes: one based on the body under the garments and the other based on the clothing itself. In computer graphics, a model's underlying framework, or mesh, determines its general form. After that, it may be improved even further by adding particular texture maps, such as normal maps.
A "skin-clothing barrier" is mentioned in the patent, which may suggest that the clothes may even react to the user's motions. The border's purpose is to prevent the clothing from cutting through the body and causing the immersion to be broken. It's an intriguing idea, but it remains to be seen how well it will actually operate or even whether it will ever materialize. Although it has been difficult for other applications and games to include accurate 3D face scans from a photo or a video, this is starting to improve as time goes on. Although the thought of uploading real-world clothing that someone owns may be appealing to some, it seems unlikely that the ordinary user would want to visit the Metaverse and talk to strangers who look precisely like them.
Users of the Metaverse have already experienced some controversy because they felt bullied, and it is unclear whether its potential will ever be fully utilized. Although Meta continues to lose money in the virtual reality segment, it is evident that advancements are being made in the creation of technologies that will improve the Metaverse for a wide range of user types.
