The first-person shooter game Team Fortress 2 was created and released by Valve Corporation in 2007. It is the follow-up to the Team Fortress Quake mod from 1996 and the Team Fortress Classic version from 1999. The Orange Box included the game in its October 2007 release for Windows and the Xbox 360, and it was transferred to the PlayStation 3 in December of that same year. It debuted in April 2008 for Windows as a standalone game, and in June 2010 and February 2013, updates added support for Mac OS X and Linux. Electronic Arts oversee the retail and console editions, which are managed by Valve's digital store Steam.
In game types including capture the flag and king of the hill, players can choose from nine character classes and join one of two teams, RED or BLU. John Cook and Robin Walker, the creators of the original Team Fortress mod, oversaw development. Under the name Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms, Team Fortress 2 was first introduced in 1998. Initially, the game had more realistic, militaristic graphics and gameplay, but over the lengthy nine-year production period, this altered. Team Fortress 2 was among the entries in Wired News' annual vaporware list after Valve ceased all communication for six years. When Team Fortress 2 was finally launched in 2007 using the Source gaming engine.
Community website TF2Maps is hosting a Team Fortress 2 charity campaign in July in support of the organization Doctors Without Borders. Anyone in the FPS game's community is invited to participate in the 72-hour event, which is planned to run from July 22 through July 25, and to make TF2-related items in support of the humanitarian organization. The only need to join is to "create something for or about Team Fortress 2," according to the regulations. As long as it has something to do with Valve's free-to-play game, it can be an in-game or real-world initiative. Examples include "warpaints, animations, movies, paintings, drawings, fan fiction, woodwork, stonework, legwork, homework, and anything else in-between" as well as maps, models, or mods that might be used in TF2.
The project must be completed between July 22 at 10 a.m. PT, 1 p.m. ET, and July 25 at 10 a.m. PT, 1 p.m. ET, according to the guidelines set forth by TF2Maps. The team emphasizes that while preliminary planning is permitted, you must wait until the event is online to begin developing your submission. As per TF2's standard guidelines, you may also use custom stuff from other users in your project as long as you provide proper credit to them.

The TF2Maps crew will be live streaming the event and showcasing in-game creations as well as map testing sessions to provide feedback to anyone creating maps, which, as the group's name might imply, is their area of expertise. Throughout the event, other community initiatives will be highlighted through "Jam Ketchup" workshops. In the meantime, Valve has released several Team Fortress 2 upgrades to help users remove bots from their games in response to the current #SaveTF2 campaign.
Critical praise for Team Fortress 2's art style, gameplay, humor, and character use in a completely multiplayer game Since its release, it has been hailed as one of the best video games ever created. As of July 2022, nearly a full fifteen years after the game's release, it still receives official Valve server support in addition to seasonal updates in the form of Steam Workshop submissions. The game's transition to free-to-play in June 2011 was made possible via in-game cosmetic microtransactions. Additionally, a "drop system" that enables free-to-play gamers to sporadically obtain in-game gear and goods was added and improved.
