The PlayStation 5 is Sony's largest console to date, but one intrepid fan has managed to significantly shrink the device down to a much slimmer size. DIY YouTuber Matt Perks took on the challenge of shrinking the PS5, eventually producing a console that is just an inch tall and employing some clever design to achieve this sleeker form factor.

Perkins took a regular PS5 and stripped it down for months, placing the motherboard and other core components inside a copper shell. The PS5 heatsink took up a significant amount of space within the original console, which Perkins completely removed and replaced with an external water-cooling solution. The catch is that the water-cooling system is quite large and is housed externally within a completely separate copper shell mounted to the wall, but it did the job.

Perkins also used the copper sheeting to help control the heat generated by the PS5's internal hardware, and in subsequent testing, he discovered that his setup did a far better job of keeping the SSD, RAM, and other elements from overheating. There were a few setbacks along the way, but Perkins finally did create a slimmer and more elegant PS5 slim console.

In other PlayStation news, it's rumoured that Sony will release a PS5 "Pro" controller with removable analogue sticks and rear paddle triggers, similar to the Xbox Elite controller.
