Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, a remaster of the original two games in the series, was released in 2020 by Activision and Vicarious Visions. Many fans hoped that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4 would be given the same treatment, and it appears that this was the intention at one point. Tony Hawk said that plans for more remakes were postponed after Vicarious Visions merged with Blizzard Entertainment during an appearance on a Twitch stream with AndyTHPS. Activision reportedly listened to ideas from other studios, but "they didn't like anything they heard and that was it," according to Hawk.

Remakes for both were still planned as late as the release date of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, according to Tony Hawk himself, appearing on a Twitch Livestream, but the project was postponed due to the merger of remake studio Vicarious Visions with Blizzard. "That was the intention," says the narrator "When considering the prospect of more installments or remakes, Hawk said during the live stream. "We were going 3 and 4 even up until the release day of this [the remakes of 1 and 2]. Then Vicarious was acquired, and they were on the lookout for new developers. Then it was all over."

Activision attempted to find another team to take on the remake projects after Vicarious Visions dropped out. " was looking for someone to do 3 and 4, but they didn't trust anyone as much as they trusted Vicarious." "Hawk remarked. "As a result, they took other studios' pitches: 'What would you do with the THPS title?' And if they didn't like what they heard, that was the end of it."

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, another well-received remaster, was also created by Vicarious Visions. Following the merger, the company is now solely dedicated to assisting in games such as World of Warcraft and Overwatch. We may see a new Tony Hawk game from a different developer at some point in the future, but Tony Hawk's latest comments suggest it won't be for a long time. Of course, after Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, all of that could change. While Activision has moved its focus to key trademarks such as Call of Duty, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has previously stated that he wants to bring back some of the publisher's dormant franchises. The publisher has a lot of titles that are long overdue for a reboot, and the Tony Hawk series has a solid track record, so it appears to be the ideal option for a new video game. Fans will have to wait and watch how things turn out for the time being.

The remakes of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 were such a hit when they were released in 2020 that future installments—whether remakes or a brand new game—seemed inescapable. Last year, the drummer for CKY confirmed that the band would be included on an upcoming Tony Hawk soundtrack. Vicarious Visions was merged into Blizzard Entertainment shortly after the Tony Hawk 1+2 remake was released. All employees were reassigned to positions that were "completely committed to existing Blizzard games and programs."
