CD Projekt has created and published Cyberpunk 2077, an action role-playing computer game. Night City, an open world set in the Cyberpunk milieu, is the setting for the story. Players adopt the first-person perspective of V, a configurable mercenary with hacking and mechanical talents as well as melee and ranged combat options. The plot follows V's battle to deal with a mystery cybernetic implant that threatens to overwrite his body with the personality and memories of a deceased celebrity only V can perceive; the two must work together if they are to be separated and V's life saved.

A team of roughly 500 individuals worked on the game utilizing the REDengine 4, which is more than the number of employees that worked on the studio's previous game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015). CD Projekt established a new division in Wroclaw, Poland, and collaborated on the project alongside Digital Scapes, Nvidia, QLOC, and Jali Research. Mike Pondsmith, the founder of cyberpunk, served as a consultant, and Keanu Reeves stars in the film. Marcin Przybyowicz led the original score, which included contributions from a number of licensed artists.

In the February patch that brought CD Projekt's disappointing open-world game up to version 1.5, a data miner claims to have discovered subtitles for a planned Cyberpunk 2077 expansion. Multiple subreddits, including r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, have received an archive containing text files, largely of English dialogue but also some in Polish.

"Quest" and "open world" are directories in the archive, with subfolders for "fixers," "mini world stories," "scene," "street stories," and "world encounters" in the latter. The story begins with V infiltrating the Combat Zone, a part of Night City that was not previously explored in Cyberpunk 2077.

The quest giver is Songbird, a netrunner who hacks into V's head and briefly replaces Johnny Silverhand, which seems like a reasonable explanation for Keanu Reeves' absence. Getting him back into the studio for even a small DLC wouldn't be worth the money.

While the meat and potatoes of this extension appear to be a side narrative, there are also files linked to Cyberpunk 2077's endings, implying that if you complete it, you will be able to unlock a new version of at least one of them. It all appears to be genuine, but it's most likely an excerpt from a work-in-progress that could change considerably by the time it's finished, with a release date of 2023.

"I can guarantee we are working on additions; nothing has changed here," CD Projekt joint CEO Adam Kiciski said earlier this year, confirming that Cyberpunk 2077 expansions were still in the works. However, the next Witcher game's announcement cited "the impending Cyberpunk 2077 expansion" in the singular, while Kiciski seemed to imply a "Cyberpunk expansion" during a CD Projekt Q1 2022 earnings conference (opens in new tab). Redditors who were expecting two add-ons aren't taking the news well, while it's certainly likely they're reading too much into non-native English speakers' irregular plural usage.
